The wonders of science are on full display at the Great Lakes Science Center, a captivating museum located on the shores of Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio. Featuring interactive exhibits and exciting displays on a range of subjects, this institution offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of science and technology.
Opened in 1996, the Great Lakes Science Center spans over 160,000 square feet, packed with hands-on exhibits about the Great Lakes region, STEM, outer space, and more. One of the highlights of the museum is the NASA Glenn Visitor Center — one of only eleven NASA visitor centers in the country — where visitors can dive into the world of space exploration and learn about the groundbreaking research conducted by NASA's nearby Glenn Research Center. With replicas of space capsules, moon rocks, interactive simulations, and other artifacts, the Glenn Visitor Center is the perfect place to experience the excitement of space travel.
Another must-see exhibit for families is the Polymer Funhouse, where young children can engage in sensory play and discover the science behind polymers. Another hands-on educational attraction is the Water Lab, where they can learn about the importance of the resource and explore its properties through experiments and demonstrations.
The Science Center is also home to the William G. Mather steamship, a historic Great Lakes freighter permanently docked outside the museum. The historic 618-foot vessel gives visitors insight into the maritime history of the region and a sense of what life is like on a working ship.
How to Visit
Admission tickets to the Great Lakes Science Center can be purchased on-site or beforehand, through the museum’s website. Adult tickets are priced at $19.95, while youth tickets are $12.95, with discounted rates available for seniors and museum members. Find more details on the museum's website.
With its hands-on exhibits and engaging programs, this museum is a must-visit destination for science enthusiasts and curious minds.
