Motown Museum

Motown Museum

The Motown music movement had its roots in Detroit. The Motown Museum is dedicated to celebrating, promoting, and preserving the most authentic Detroit Motown Story. From Motown’s humble beginnings in a private home to being an international movement, experience it all at this unique museum.

History

There would be no museum without Berry Gordy, who founded Motown Records in 1959. It was not until 1985 that Esther Gordy Edwards established the Motown Museum. Today, the museum is located in the original headquarters and recording studio used by Berry Gordy. A $55 million 50,000-square-foot expansion is planned for the museum's future. The plan is to turn the small home-based museum into an entertainment destination.
